Welcome to The Malt Activist – a journal of my experiences as a whisky enthusiast.
This site is intended for whisky enthusiasts of all types. Whether you’re a single malt aficionado, a lover of blends, a drinker of bourbons, a collector of grain whiskies or simply curious about the Water of Life then you’ve come to the right place.
What can you expect to find on this site? Well, a couple of things.
When I started out collecting whiskies for my cabinet there wasn’t a central resource that managed to guide me keeping in mind my wallet and my newly acquired taste for the good stuff. I saw a lot of friends buy expensive whiskies and come to regret their purchase. Others simply did not know what to buy and were too scared to experiment.
The articles on this site will focus on educating the new-comer on the types of whiskies, the etiquettes of nosing and tasting and reviews of awesome whiskies that appeal both to the palate and the wallet!
And how do I rate the whiskies I’ve tasted? I can try and come up with a scientific method but there really isn’t. It’s what I’m feeling at the moment, to be honest.
94 – 100 is brilliant
90 – 93 is very good
86 – 89 is good with minor flaws
82 – 85 is average and maybe a touch below
78 – 81 is starting to suck
Anything below, well, you know…
Finally I will share with you my experiences as I come in contact with new whiskies, new people and unique whisky events.
Happy reading and Slainte.
